I have yellowing leaves and then the thing on the stem is happening. I’m not sure what’s going on. If somebody could help me, I’d appreciate it.

I would say to switch to orchid bark or some other chunky potting medium! Chunky mediums like orchid bark are looser and provides better airflow and drainage than potting soil which is really important for orchids. I get my orchid bark on Amazon but it’s at pretty much all plant stores too. Once it is in something chunky you’ll be able to see the roots better which can also help you know when to water. Green roots are hydrated while silver/grey roots are dry.

I would recommend a switch sooner rather than later. The yellowing leaves could be a sign of root rot. If the roots are mushy, brown, or smell bad I would change the soil immediately as the rot will spread. Transplant shock is a concern too but I would worry about the roots first! If you are super worried about transplant shock though I would say that products Superthrive can help reduce the chances or severity of it. I think I’ve seen Superthrive at plant stores too but I know it’s on Amazon for sure.

I just learned the hard way but I would also recommend an orchid specific pot! My orchid was in a regular pot with one drainage hole at the bottom but when I took her out of the bark, she had rot towards the bottom of the pot. They need more airflow than I had originally thought! Orchid pots have holes on the sides so their roots can breathe better, I’ll include a picture of the one I am going to use. I hope this helps!

We already mentioned in the orchid oasis group a month ago that you repotted it in the wrong medium. The roots have most likely rotted, and you now have an infection going up the stem of the orchid. You should remove it immediately, but it may be past saving at this point.
