I’m fairly new to plant care, this is my first time repotting a plant with problems in the soil. What exactly am I looking at, how do I treat it?

Could be a mix of mold and water build up. Do you use regular tap water? If so that might be the white stuff. I would try and remove all of the soil spray roots with Hydrogen peroxide to clean the roots of any bacteria.
1 likeThis might not be a problem… healthy soil contains mycelium (roots of fungus), which is a very good thing.
1 likeIf it smells really bad and is mushy it’s root rot, if it has or gets root rot you have to chop off every root that is mushy and dark, it doesn’t look like root rot though
