Botanical Hack

I repotted my Alocasia Azlanii this morning in order to get it into a chunky mix. When I pulled it out of the pot there were 2 groupings of these white growths. Normally, when I see formations like this, they’re insect eggs. Does anyone know what these are? Eggs? Mold or some other fungus? Tiny Tic Tacs made by tiny soil elves?

Looks like these are a fungus. The plant is in perfect condition otherwise. I got rid of the soil and replaced with a chunky mix which will bring in even more air to the roots so it should be ok. Fungicide was suggested, but I don’t think I need it with the soil change-out. Will watch for any change.

Looks like slime mold. Totally harmless. You can remove it if you want. It’s actually pretty neat if you look it up. I’d advise you to get more airflow and/or light to your plant

It has plenty of light and the soil wasn’t overly moist. You can even tell in the image that it’s not particularly moist. And as mentioned above, I changed out the nursery soil this morning and replaced it with a chunky mix. The chunky mix will get more air to the roots. All should be good.

Speaking of nursery soil, I wish they would use chunky mix to start with. Since they know about plants they must know the soil they use is not the best option for plants like Alocasias.

Agree, it’s slime mold and is harmless and probably nearly impossible to get rid of. I’d leave it alone, it’s probably doing good things for the plant and soil health.
