Bought this Air Plant (bulbous plant) from the Philadelphia flower show this past week. I was told it needs to be watered once a week. The roots don’t look too good now that I’m taking a closer look. Does anyone have experience with this plant. Is it sick? Should I pot this?

Oohh thats interesting it even has roots. Since they aren't usually planted or potted up at all. Usually they're just set in a display of some kind. My air plants I soak every 7-10 days. I soak them for about 15 mins. Then I put them on a coaster to dry. The teddy bears I have right now, I do upright, because their base is at the bottom and their leaf shape doesn't have crevices. Most other variety I've had I prop upside down, so that all the water gets out of between the leaves, especially at the base. Otherwise it can lead to them rotting

Thank you so much! I was confused by the roots. They had it out in a bowl but, the roots are so long that it looks like it should be potted. I will place it upside down this week to see if it improves.

There are a few air plants, like quills they do often get planted. But I've never seen these that way, theres a few different location varieties of this. In the wild they just kinda use them like aerial roots to attach to other plants. You could trim them down, especially if they are dry and dessicated. Maybe they were keeping it too wet? That may explain the leaves being a bit droopy. But sone good indirect light and making sure it dries out after you water, I think it'll perks back up

Very nice!! Looks a lot like my two Tilandsia bulbosa Guatemala. Neither of mine have roots but I have seen one or two at the nursery with roots. Not sure I would pot mine as I soak them once a week or so.

Air plants have Roots but they grow in trees. You should mist it every couple days and soak it for about 15 minutes in a bowl of distilled or filtered water weekly. Let it dry before putting it back in its place. You can buy air plant fertilizers which you mist onto the plant or use in the soaking water. Using distilled water is important. Air plants are bromeliads they will bloom once and then the parent plant dies after producing pups.

I've never used distilled on mine. They just get popped in the watering can with the regular water or fertilizer mix. Do you notice any large difference?
