Hello, very new plant mother here! I was recently gifted (what I now know is) a Tradescantia Nanouk. I was unsure if there was a problem with how its stems/leaves are hanging. I know it is a trailing plant, but some pictures I see online show some stems that stand more upright. I have been rotating it and it is placed near a bright window w/ a humidifier. Any tips would be greatly appreciated for this plant newbie 😅 - thanks!

this plant loves being cut over and over and will grow stronger and bushier over time if you do. you can even just put the cuttings right back into the soil and it takes pretty well.

Thanks! Do you have any tips/tricks on where to cut? I haven’t trimmed down a plant before lol

cut where the nodes are, it’s pretty easy to find examples online. basically it’s the spaces between the leaves.

Not a problem! Tradescantia are actually crawlers so it’s going to trail like that from the pot. Looks healthy though so good job

As others have said, Trades are hanging/crawling plants so no worries there -- if you dont want or dont have the space you could also get a trellis for them! That will give the plant more vertical growth! I do this eith most of my trailing plants as a way to save on space on my shelves.

I don’t let it trail. I prefer it more contained, so I prune it. It increases the density of leaves. Also new shoots appear. If you let it trail, the distance between leaves increases.
