Any tips related to caring for plants with a crown or "well"? I have a red banana leaf (maurelii), it's been a struggle with this $5 rescue, so it was in rough shape when I got it. But, it continues to push out new leaves, so I'm not giving up. The cycle that I'm battling is in order to treat the black rot on the stalks and the spider mites, I damage the emerging leaf. The fungicide or insecticide will pool down in the crown or if I soak a q-tip first, I can't get far enough in the folds without cracking or breaking the stalks. The last couple of leaves have had only tip/edge damage and so far this new one looks good. But, any ideas to treat without causing damage?

Hydrogen peroxide evaporates pretty well. I'd use it for the crevices and then dry off anything you can reach with paper towel (rip off a bit, fold it into a pointy shape, and stick it into the crack. It can wick up most of the liquid)
