Slowly but surely she's withering away. 😕 she was doing so well. Had her since last July. All of a sudden she just started going downhill. I took her outside to check the soil and see what was up. I don't know what to do. Really don't want to say this is it. Not sure if I should repot the separate pieces in smaller more draining pots or what. Please help.

it could probably use a smaller, more drawing pot all together, or you could try growing it in hydroponics!!

For starters, would you mind clarifying what type of plant she is specifically? Just wanna make sure I recommend the right soil for your plant (if you’re new to this plant, Planta tells what soil type is recommended in the care info section)

Great! I’ve had one of those. Her name’s Terry. I’ll do my best to help. They’re very hardy. Definitely think you can save yours. Here’s mine for reference.

So sorry to hear about your plant. I’d definitely repot her, and seperate pieces is a great idea if you wanna increase the likelihood that at least one part of her will survive, and give it less to work to recover during waterings. I’d start by soaking the roots in a mix of hydrogen peroxide and water (1/3 of the solution being hydrogen peroxide and 2/3 of the solution being water), then running the roots under non-tap water afterward. I always do this when there’s a pest issue and especially if there’s root rot or any root issues. Cut any rotted roots off immediately before you place it in the peroxide solution, soak it, then repot in fresh soil. My personal favorite is Espoma’s Organic All-Purpose Soil, but I’ve heard great things about Foxfarm’s Organic Ocean Soil All-Purpose Mix, and adding extra perlite shouldn’t hurt if you’re worried about overwatering. I bottom watered mine (she didn’t die. I gifted her to my cousin cause she’s sadly very toxic to dogs and my dog is way too curious to risk it) and that was great in preventing the attraction of any pests and reducing the risk of overwatering her

I also wanna strongly suggest that you wear gloves when doing all of this. Aglaonema have micro-crystals in their sap (and especially their flowers, if yours had any) that can be very irritating to the skin and feel like broken fiberglass on the skin to some. That reaction doesn’t happen to everyone, but it’s always a good idea to rule on the safe side. If you have touched it without wearing gloves, definitely scrub your hands thoroughly and avoid any hand to mouth contact. Even if you don’t have a reaction to the sap from your hands, you definitely don’t wanna risk any reaction that could involve ingestion. Really don’t mean to scare you, but I felt I should warn you just in case. That was why I decided to gift my plant to my cousin. I had to use separate tools and gloves when working with mine and it was just a little too stressful to have her around with my dog constantly testing if our furniture is edible).

Thank you for your help. I really appreciate it. I'm looking forward to seeing if I can save my baby. She was thriving for so long.
