Hey all, noticed a few people are struggling with propagating monstera cuttings and such in water, due to root rot and just rot in general. Generally when you receive a cutting/make one you want to leave the area to callous over which helps prevent that area from rotting, you can also dip the end in wax to help seal it, both perfectly good options. You will need to change the water regularly but don’t tip out all the water, only tip out around half and then fill it back up with fresh water to increase the oxygen levels, whilst also preserving the rooting hormones your plant releases to help root itself

Any tips for transferring them into soil? I had some monstera cuttings that immediately got root rot when I transferred them to soil. Within a week the leaves were turning yellow so that’s what made me check. I had to cut the majority of the roots and start over

If you’re transferring them water to soil, first make sure it has secondary roots (roots coming off the thicker ones) after that take the monstera put it in the pot (make sure it’s 2-3 inches bigger than the root ball) then water till the soil becomes muddy. Root die back and yellow leaves will happen as the plant has water roots and now has to acclimate to soil.
