No I haven’t, I am an extreme beginner. What would I be looking for?

No worries! Roots should be firm and usually light in color. If any roots are mushy, or fall off easily, you should trim them off. This is a sign of root rot and can spread to the rest of the roots if it doesn’t get cut off. Rinse the roots with water, then soak them in 3% hydrogen peroxide for about 20 minutes. Throw away any of the soil that was used previously, rinse the pot out with hot water and then rinse the pot with hydrogen peroxide as well. Pot the plant back up in fresh potting soil mixed with perlite. For this plant, I would use half soil, half perlite, which will still retain moisture but also allow for drainage. I would also trim off any old leaves and bare stems so the plant can save energy for new growth. Give it plenty of light, and only water when the soil is very dry. It won’t need as much water until it grows new leaves. As long as the plant has healthy roots, it will regrow.
