Hi. New to plants. Recently went on a spending spree and got a bunch of plants and this app to help me take care of them. I watered them when I brought them home around 4 days ago, but I believe that may have been overwatering. Do you think this is the case as the tips of the leaves on almost all the plants are turning brown. If so, how do I fix that before it gets worse? Also, what would be the best solution for the gnats that seem to come with the plants lol. Thanks in advance for any answers. Edit: my apartment gets shade, but I’ve been using a grow light on them as well. Could it be not enough light still?

You’re doing great! Plants will lose leaves you just have to prune here and there accordingly. Pay attention to the soil of your plants more than the app to keep your plants happy (in my experience) but the app is a great benchmark or reminder and you can personalize the schedule too. Make sure your plants have the right amount of light, I’ve learned that lighting is so important! Grow lights can always help. Some store bought plants aren’t always planted in the right soil or pot for their roots, so read the little descriptions in the app for soil recomendations and overall care. Gnats- I typically clean up/ inspect new plants outside before bringing them inside. If there’s bugs or gnats I try to repot and clean the plant & roots with hydrogen peroxide spray before taking them inside. For maintenance, I put cinnamon on top of the soil of my plants after I water them, and I have diffusers in my home with essential oils (frankincense, eucalyptus, spearmint) and I haven’t noticed any bugs!!

I agreed to everything that you say. I bought a moisture meter to measure how wet the soil is and found that extremely helpful.

Amazing. Thanks for the advice. Will definitely be sure to treat the plants before bringing them in next time lol.
