What is the BEST way to get rid of FUNGUS GNATS on my indoor plant… | Pests, diseases and problems 🇺🇸 | Planta-community

What is the BEST way to get rid of FUNGUS GNATS on my indoor plant babies? I couldn’t get a picture of them because they were so teeny and they moved continually. I could barely see them with a magnifying glass, but I am sure they were FUNGUS GNATS! Oooohhhh! (my fists are clenched as I say that!) HELP!!! 😊💚🪴 PS FYI, my plant babies have already gone through four recent sprays of neem interspersed with copper fungicide for scale. If I spray, am I setting up my plants for some kind of treatment resistance?

While it won’t get rid of them, a fun idea that might make their presence less daunting could be getting a Cape Sundew! Then the gnats become free plant food :)

What is a Cape Sundue? I’m showing my ignorance, but I’ve never heard of one; sounds intriguing though! I’ll check it out. TXS for the suggestion.😊💚🪴

Beneficial Nematodes. Look up Nature's Good Guys, if you don't know for sure that they're fungus gnats you can always get the triple blend which treats a wide variety of pests!

This is the real answer. Beneficial Nematodes and/or Bonides Systemic granules will wipe fungus gnats in 1-2 rounds of treatment. You’ll need to treat your entire collection at the same time. This is another brand besides Natures Good Guys. I’ve had good results with both.

I treated my plants with 2 rounds of nematodes, 2 weeks apart. Haven't seen a gnat since!

I’ve been using mosquito bits tea to water and yellow sticky traps — killed off a bunch of them the first week, I think they took out the rest the second week, but I’m doing a third round just in case :)

      I second this recommendation.

I’ve never done that before, but I do have mosquito dunks on hand, which I could probably use. I have used yellow sticky traps, and to be honest, I’ve never disliked anything as much as I do those darn sticky yellow things that get in your hair, your face, arms, hands; you name it, It’ll stick there. I do have some on hand though so I will put some out. How do you keep from being attacked by those yellow things? TXS for that information.😊💚🪴

I am just careful! And sometimes use tweezers to grasp the non-sticky spots

Try the kind of sticky traps that attach to small sticks that you poke into the soil. This is one kind but there are others equally effective. I push them in right down to the soil line. They catch the gnats as they leave the soil so there are fewer gnats flying around your home and don’t get stuck to anything but the gnats - other than a little stickiness on your fingers as you set them up.
