So my tomato plants I have grown from seed and I started them inside. They all looked fine, some growing quicker than other but as soon as I moved them outside now that it’s warm (Northern Illinois) they started withering and getting these white patches on their leaves and I have no idea why… They were in a south facing window while they were inside and got about 7 hours of sun and now they’re outside they get about 10 hours of sunlight. I water and fertilize on a relatively consistent schedule. Anyone know what’s up with them?

Not certain but a couple possibilities - seedlings started inside often need a gentle/gradual acclimation period to handle outside life - tomatoes can be susceptible to a lot of diseases, including a number colloquially referred to as “blight”. It can be preexisting in the growing substrate and/or get carried in the wind.

This happened to a few of mine! For mine, it was definitely sunburn but they were fine and bounced back after a few days. I live in Arizona so they DEFINITELY get a lot of sun and heat.

Update: They’re already rebounding with new healthy dark green growth above the sun-bleached leaves!
