My white star calathea (goeppertia) has thrips. I gave the leaves a shower last night and am going to pick up Bonide today. Do I also need to change out the soil and rinse off the roots?

Add a layer of diatomaceous earth to the top of the soil. This will take care of the larvae dropping to the soil to mature. Make sure the DE stays dry.
2 J'aimefrom my understanding, repotting is not necessary because the larvae live inside the plant walls not in the soil. i definitely recommend the bonide systemic granules, but also pick up some captain jack’s dead bug brew. thrips can become immune to one insecticide, so hitting with two helps prevent natural selection for insecticide resistance! best of luck, i’m also fighting thrips i think i’ve had for years tbh.

0 J'aimethe concentrate! i bought 2 premixed bottles bc that was all i could find the day I had time to treat allllllll my plants, but ive since bought the concentrate and it works great!
1 j'aimeespecially with thrips where they live on the leaves and in little nooks and crannies, the spray is helpful to just drench it
