Do I need to repot my Snake Plant? I just bought her 2 days ago.
I would say no because they love to be root bound but if the plant starts looking unhappy then definitely repot
3 likesYes, I probably would repot. Highly recommend strong clear plastic pots so you can check on the root system whenever you want. Only go up in size by 1-2 inches.
4 likesI would advise to go ahead and repot it now since you have so many roots already coming out the drainage holes. Also the best time advised to repot any plants is between spring and summer because this is the growing season. Plants go dormant in the winter
2 likesOkay thank you so much!
0 likesDefinitely repot. I don't recommend self watering pots for snake plants, unless you live in the desert ๐๐ชด I personally prefer terracotta for my snake plants!
2 likesI bought it from Walmart so I just havenโt repotted it yet!
1 likeOkay I will definitely try it out thank you!

from my experience with snake plants they love being in smaller pots, they are big on being kinda cramped together but they thrive in it! definitely go with a terracotta pot, i have found they love them the best!
1 likeOkay what about watering? How often do I need to water and when do i know when it needs it again?

so what i do is i wait until all the soil is completely dry, like bone dry, i tend to just either stick my finger in the dirt or a chopstick, if the soil is like roughly pretty dry i do suggest watering it, if you can get a pot with drainage holes i do suggest bottom watering it has been a big game changer in my experience, along with adding either fertilizer drops or glass water if you smoke
1 likeOkay thank you! Also does it matter how many drainage holes the pot has?

i always say the more the better!
0 likesFor snake plants, they always wanna dry out all the way to the bottom so I think getting a pot with more than one hole for drainage would really help it achieve that
2 likesPull off the pot. Look at the entire root system. Then, decide if it needs repotting based on the amount of dense roots not based of the roots sticking out of the bottom. Those roots out the bottom could only be tapping into the drainage water. Cut those external roots off and donโt leave standing water in the drainage dish. Also, repotting too soon and watering too often can lead to root rot. Finally, these plants like a tight pot. They put out new plants until the pot is filled. No rush to repot unless the plant is ailing or it really needs it. ๐ชด๐

0 likes๐๐๐๐๐good luck!! Basically ignore this plant after you repot it.. I have two one on my plant stand I canโt tell you when it was watered last ๐๐๐คand I have another variegated one sitting on a shelf right next to my west facing window in which I water more but because itโs that close to the sun and heat, but only when my soil meter says itโs dry!! YOU GOT IT!!!!
