Help! I got this banana plant a week ago and it dropped the last two leaves it had hung onto :( I see this tinnnnyyyy leaf fighting for life. No root rot or pests. Ite in a south facing room and a few feet from a humidifier. Maybe I need a smaller pot but unsure if I should repot? Any tips to help him recover is much appreciated!!! 🙏🏻

A smaller pot, more chunky perlite, if you can a plastic container or humidity dome on top and remove the watering bulb. These dont like to dry out completely but it seems like the medium is staying wet for too long. It looks like a lot of cocoa coir and that tends to dry out on the surface but stay wet down inside the container

Mix half soil with half chunky mix like this

Thank you! Would a bag work as a dome or should it be one attached to a nursery pot?

      Clear plastic bag could work

Agree, remove water bulb. Soil looks wet. I don’t know about banana plants, this is what google says These vigorous plants need rich soil or compost, plenty of water during the growing season, and regular feeding. They thrive in a warm, sheltered, sunny spot. At least 6 hours of sun or use grow light also in text from google. Good luck :))

If this was varigated, it looks like you may have popped it into high light too quickly. I agree about removing the watering bulb, though these are thirsty, they do not like to stay super wet. I keep all my banana variety in a chunky mix with stratum. And SMALL pots, they do not need much root room and do better in them. They are in high light but I slowly hardened them off to it. That being said, I had a learning curve on keeping them, and have brought a few back from looking pretty dang sad. If its trying to push out a leaf its promising.

They also require a LOT of fertilization. You will see specific banana ones. I just use my normal houseplant ones every 2-3 weeks.

Thank you! Will do all of the above. Should I leave the stalk as is for now, too?

I would just clip back the fried parts. Any greenish parts could still be allowing it some photosynthesis. I don't usually clip back their leaves until they are completely brown
