This is George. He’s a Hosta that was recently freed from a milk jug (that’s how he was sold) which is naturally quite lacking in drainage holes, so I repotted him two days ago. Since releasing him from milk jug jail, he’s gone from looking perfectly fine to absolutely turning on me. I want to check the roots for any rot but I’m scared of touching him too much again considering I’ve repotted and moved him twice already. Any help would be greatly appreciated! (I’m very new to hostas too, so any advice on them in general would be a big help) (For reference, the first photo is George now, and the second is George from last week when he was in the milk jug.)

I’d like to give an update. I checked for root rot and the roots were all (thankfully) firm and healthy. I found one small slug in the bottom of the soil upon root inspection and found that all the soil where the roots are was bone dry but the rest of the soul was very moist evenly for everywhere BUT where the roots were. Any advice as to what could be the problem now that I’ve ruled root rot out would be greatly appreciated.
