Does anyone know why Fern’s leave are turning pale like this? It’s like it’s only one stem at a time, and not the entire plant at once. I recently repotted him, even though it’s still winter, because his pot was too tall and I worried about root rot. He’s by an eastern facing window, and has rocks in the bottom of his pot since this one doesn’t have drainage holes and it was the best size I had for him until I can get a new pot I really don’t want him to die, and I’m worried whatever the problem is, it’s slowly killing him I used a different app that diagnosed him with an abiotic problem, but none of the ones I saw seemed quite right. The leaves would all turn pale together, not just one at a time. So I don’t know if that’s true or not

ferns can be a little finicky to keep. You can repot any time of year so dont worry about that. Rocks in the bottom of the pot can actually cause roots to rot faster if you're not careful! I've had many ferns that died but this is what is working for me right now with my sword fern: potted him in a soil mix with equal parts peat moss, potting soil, and perlite, have him in indirect light (a few feet away from the window). I try to keep the soil damp but not super wet. I check deep in mine with a wooden skewer, if the soil sticks to it bad then its too wet to water. Try not to let yours get too dry. the biggest thing I think is helping is hes right next to a humidifer. I would bet the dried out spots are an indicator of low humidity. if you dont want/ have a humidifier you could try a cloche over top of him to keep humidity in!

Thank you so much for the in depth info. I wasn’t aware that rocks could make root rot worse, so I’ll really have to be careful about that. I don’t have a humidifier, so I think that might be the problem. Thank you so much for the tips and the in depth comment, it means a lot to me
