What is this on my birds nest fern? It was in a sort of sorry state when I got it from the grocery store 4-5 months ago. Since then it has been repotted into chunky soil and growing good new leaves. After not looking at it for a week or two; I come to see this in it. What is it? App says spider mites, but I don’t see any webs, or anything crawling around! What do I do?

If it is just on the new growth, it is ramenta. They are harmless hairs on immature new growth.

Yes, this is normal for birds nest ferns. They might not look pretty at this stage, but as they unfurl, that’s where all the magic happens. 😀

It doesn't look like spidermites. It does remind me of mealy bug remnants. If i have bug suspicions I usually take some damp paper towel and wipe off the suspects on at least 1 leaf. And then observe it over the course of a week to see what happens. If you see more stuff the next day or two its generally bugs. If it takes awhile its generally fungal or molds related. These ferns do have ramentum, but its usually brown in color. White growth in the crown can indicate rot too. But I personally haven't seen it creep up the more established leaves like that, just the inner "fiddle heads".
