Anyone have any advice about what to do for my Monstera Deliciosa’s leaves? They’re slowly turning brown and wilted on the edges. I water once a week, maybe longer in between if the soil is still moist. I pictured the window it’s sitting next to. I’m not sure what to do for her and would love some advice if anyone has it! :)

Also it was previously in a more shaded area but I saw several people saying to move it to an open window in order to have the holes develop in her leaves! Do you think it’s too much sunlight or something else? ^^

i’m totally not experienced in this kind of thing but my monstera has very similar looking damage and it was caused by being too cold! apparently they’re very temperature sensitive, a google search said they like 18-25° C (64°-77° F I believe) and below 10° C (50F) they start to show frost damage. I could definitely be wrong but I hope maybe it could help!

This could be it. It is also placed above a vent, so you have the heat or ac blowing straight on the leaves?

That’s an excess water issue and not a temperature issue. My monstera stayed outside for years with temperatures range from freezing to excessive heating (107°F). I wrapped it in wool blankets for those few days of freezing. I’m in zone9a. Those markings are too much water probably causing root rot which needs to be checked. Additionally, the light looks low unless that window gets 8 hours of bright light. Those porch chairs are blocking light. The window screen is filtering light. Plus, the plant is 1 foot away from the window. (And it’s on a vent which can cause future problems)

I never thought about it being the temperature! It’s over a vent but it isn’t actively blowing since it’s been pretty moderate temperatures here! There could be some air flow coming through anyways though that’s messing her up! I’ll try to move it and see if it helps!

I’ll definitely cut down on watering as many comments have been suggesting and see how that helps! My plant is producing new leaves that have holes in them so I assume it’s getting a good amount of light but maybe not enough? I’m going to try to bring it outside once it warms up a bit more here and see if that helps

i think if you’re watering once a week that’s too much! i wait until the soil on mine completely dries out and i check that by sticking a wooden skewer in the dirt and seeing if anything comes out on the stick or if it’s still damp and then i’ll wait to water unless i can tell its dried out

same here. i usually water mine every two weeks or whenever it starts to droop. they’re very dramatic plants and will tell you when they need water. also yes definitely more sun needed for fenestrations to happen. does the soil have a musty smell by chance? have you checked the roots yet for root rot? is your house cool or is the plant near a drafty window?

Sounds good! I’ve been watering once a week since that’s what most of my other plants need but I’ll try cutting it down to once every 2 weeks and see if that helps her! As many of the comments are saying, that seems to be the issue!

agreed with above! also do you mist the monstera at all? i noticed mine likes some humidity

I wouldn’t recommend misting monsteras or any plants as studies show it doesn’t actually change ambient humidity, and can cause fungus gnats, mold, and fungal and bacterial infections
