You can trim if you want, or repot. I will just cut the root ball in half and put it back in the same pot if I want the plant to stay the same size.
1 me gustaCan you do this with any plant that you want to keep from growing anymore than it currently is? TIA…🤗💚🪴
0 Me gustaYes!

Yes, it’ll keep it the same size, very helpful if you don’t have space or really like a pot it’s currently in.
0 Me gustaThanks, I trimmed it. 👍🏻
0 Me gustaMy favorite succulent supplier recommended not trimming more than a third as optimal. Anyone who has trimmed half, was it successful and the plant stayed healthy?
0 Me gustaIt’s really dependent on the plant and when you’re cutting roots. If you do it during the growing season you can remove more. I would probably say the 1/3 rule is a good rule of thumb! Especially for succulents that have slower growing/less vast root systems
4 Me gustaThanks. I’m running out of room for bigger plants in bigger pots!
2 Me gustaThere are some really great bonsai articles about root pruning, it’s a super common practice in bonsai since they keep the plants in such small pots.
2 Me gustaI have lots of hoyas and I’m thankful they grow big in their little pots. I don’t have the space to convert 120+ plants into 6” or 8” pots. Nightmare.
