My dear sister that hasn’t been able to keep a plant alive in 20 years gave me this orchid after she (mostly) killed it. Is there anything I can do to save this poor plant?

It looks like it may have crown rot ( in which case no) but it’s difficult to tell from the picture. You’d have to cut back all the rot and remove the moss and see if there is any remaining roots or leaves that are not rotted

0 gillningarMy friend loves orchids she’s saved several, gently remove all that moss and soil it was in. You can gently wash it or let it soak to loosen. Then remove all the weak/slimy roots. Don’t disturb the thick ones and try to save the crown roots as much as you can. Then use an orchid soil mixture and find a pot that it can dry out between waterings. (I prefer terracotta) I hope it helps! Happy planting! 😊
