I got this plant from a seller who I won’t name because they have rectified the situation. I was excited to get it but really disappointed with the status when it came in. The reason I am posting it here is because I want to know if I should be worried about it being pest related? I have it quarantined away from my big collection but have a few others in quarantine as well. I do that with all the new plants I receive. I’m just afraid and almost put this one outside to call it a day. It’s gotten worst over the last two days. I guess the question stands is it worth keeping and should I be alarmed? *This is not a post to slander the seller. They were great with their feedback and fast response. It’s to see if I had anything to worry about and could the plant bounce back. Thank you.*

Alarmed. I’d take it back. Looks sick.

It sounds like you got it through an online purchase. Possibly it received damage during shipping so the seller was not necessarily responsible for the damage but was good enough to remedy the situation. To me it looks mostly like batter from shipping. I think I would cut off that one leaf pictured in the bottom middle and leave all the rest to feed the plant as it recuperates. Maybe in time it will generate some fresh leaves and then you can remove the rest of the damaged ones.

Yes it was an online purchase. Most of the leaves has those spots on it. Do you think that it could be saved?

I love ordering from Etsy. How wet was the soil when she came? And how chilly? The first Hoya Australis Lisa I ordered came in wet soil and the heat pack had gone cold. The seller replaced the plant because the roots were wet and soggy.

Yes I do think it's possible. It will depend on the condition of the roots. If the roots are good there's no reason it should not produce fresh foliage. Make sure the pot has drainage which it probably does and that the soil drains nicely. Keep it on a good watering schedule and appropriate lighting. I would also give it a little root stimulator and fertilize it. I think I would use a weak strength of fertilizer may be quarter strength and fertilize it every time you water. Normally I don't go this weak but to encourage a strong recovery this is what I would do in your case.

KJM, what kind of root stimulator do you recommend and how do you apply it? I only know the powdered kind that I use when repotting but is there another way/kind without repotting?

Shipping can be atrocious, especially if a seller doesnt pack correctly. The majority of that looks damaged, not pest related. Personally I spray down every plant that comes in with pesticide, then every 3-5 days till it's out of QT. But I'm extra anal, and have a very large collection

@wolfen what kind of pesticide do you use for your new plants?

That’s what I was thinking but the spots on it had me a little scared. I wasn’t sure if it was something I should be worried about. Most of the leaves have this pattern on it. I do continue to treat and keep in quarantine for two weeks when I first receive plants.

I didn't see anything that super screamed pest to me. The back of that one leaf looks more like a mold/fungal issue.

Thank you for your info. I will see what happens in the long run with this one. It did come in a nice size with great roots. I am glad that it’s nothing that I would have to worry about too much.

I use the fertilome brand of root stimulator but any brand will do. It usually comes as a liquid and you mix it similar to a liquid fertilizer. Just follow package directions.

Root stimulator, not rooting hormone. Rooting hormone is used to promote root growth when there is none. Root stimulator stimulates roots when there are already Roots existing.
