Chinese Evergreen Struggling Had this guy since at least 2015 living in a compact vase. About a month ago I repotted him. There were so many roots all bundled up, and the soil had the consistency of mud, so it felt like the right call. However, he still hasn’t recovered, and leaves are still droping. The soil is also infested with fungus gnats I’m trying to get rid of.

Yeah, a mix with more perlite would be better.

These take a while to recover. Mine was yellowing and losing leaves I allowed it to dry completely and used a 50/50 mix of water/peroxide at the next watering. I left it alone and let it stay err on the side of dry. After MONTHS, it finally started growing again! I am hopeful that it will continue growing. They need well draining soil.
