The oldest leaves will fall off, so don’t feel like a failure bc of that lol. I haven’t had as much luck with any type of soil mix. I found that a 50/50 stratum/perlite mix always gave me great results. Now using contra soil which is almost the same as stratum except it doesn’t break down as fast. Slowly transition the mix into pon/pumice. I also use a self watering pot and don’t let the reservoir dry out. For light, I use grow lights bc i don’t get enough natural sun. Also, if they do die back to a nub, there is always still hope lol. I’ve had it happen many times and was able to revive them. In times if struggle for the plant, ill move into a make shift greenhouse bin for extra humidity. But normally, i don’t keep them in a greenhouse case. What type of substrate are you using? How big is the pot, particularly in comparison to the root ball? How much light is the plant getting? Do you have more pictures? No matter what, it’s not you, they can be finicky lol. With that said, a lot of trial and error to get to this point.

it’s a fairly new plant. in its original nursery pot in a planter. it gets natural light but i think i moved it when the first leaf turned a color and may have shocked it (although it was only three feet away) will post more pics tmrw but here’s how it was originally so i’m not doing great 😫

Alocasias like s relatively tight fit in their pot. They like very consistent soil moisture, so self watering pots are great for them. They shock easily if they're moved to a new location or if any growing conditions change too suddenly. They are heavy feeders on fertilizer (if you don't use it, you can expect it to drop an old leaf almost every time it makes a new one.) They're also sensitive to chemicals in the water, so if everything else is right, test that. You look like you have good soil and light already

Yes I use fertilizer on every watering. Foliage focus is my favorite. Can get it on Amazon.

And I only use distilled water. Or before I had a distiller I used stress coat to remove the chlorine

plantgeeklight and soil look ok. are you fertilizing? the no.1 issue i see people have is nutrient deficiency. they are heavy feeders.

i have never used fertilizer on this plant. would she be welcoming to a liquid fertilizer while watering? the last one i had—a baby one—leaves turned basically transparent. idk what it is

I think if you use a fertilizer and maybe change to self watering pot, you’ll see the alocasia perk up. It takes some time though. So be patient. She will be fine. I killed this Alocasia Polly myself down to the corns and was able to regrow them all.

transparent leaves is edema from overwatering. they are not drought tolerant but they certainly don't like wet feet. i use all-purpose liquid fert with every watering— about once a week— and they're all thriving.

i def don’t overwater it, which is why i’m confused. i was more so concerned that i may water too inconsistently. i am going to get a self watering pot today.
