I have been having problems with gnats in my plants, i have tried neem oil, insect killing spray, letting my plants completely dry out, systemic houseplant insect control, diatomatious earth, hydrogen peroxide, sticky traps, etc. nothing has worked and it seems as if that all just made them multiply?? they weren't bad until i did the systemic houseplant insect control and diatomatious earth and that just made them so much worse, they are all over my ceiling curtains, etc just everywhere. i'm honestly at a loss for what to do anymore

How long since you've tried these treatments? I'm wondering if you're seeing more because they're fleeing your plants! Fortunately they have a pretty short lifespan, so if that is indeed the case, you'll know soon

i put the systemic houseplant insect control and diatomatious earth in about 2ish or so weeks ago, and i was out of town for a week, and when i got back they multiplied like crazy

Use Mosquito Bits in the water. It kills the fungus gnat larvae ending the life cycle. Instructions are on the package. Also, address the soil conditions that make it ideal for the gnats to thrive. It’s usually excess water, slow drying soil, blocked or no drainage holes and others. 🪴🍀

I use sand to cover my plants. Gnats are prevalent where I live and I don’t have any problems once I cover the soil with sand. Gnats lay their eggs in moist soil, so the sand creates a barrier and is not a preferred environment for fungus gnats to lay eggs.

not to sound dumb but wouldn't they just be able to lay it in the sand when it's wet after i water the plants?

Sand doesn’t hold water like soil does. It dries out too fast for them. It’s also denser.
