I've had this citronella for a few years without knowing it needed to be pruned. It's been growing inside and leaned up on the window so I didn't know it wasn't able to withstand it's own weight. Can I safely prune it now without killing it?

You can heavily prune it to help make it fuller. It looks like it has other issues such as being too dry and needing light/fertilizer. The etiolated branches could be reaching for more light. The pale color could indicate it needs more fertilizer. 🪴🍀
