Does anyone know what could be causing this on my BOP? I recently relocated this plant from an east to a west facing window. East window isn’t getting much light this time of year due to angle of the sun. Is it getting too much sun now? I may just need to put it back in the east window and supplement with a plant light. So far this is only happening to the very tallest of the leaves but I’m thinking it is getting hit with too much direct sun especially this one leaf that shades the others. Thoughts?

Definitely looks like a sun burn which is strange because bird of paradise LOVE sun 🧐

I think it’s because it is “direct” sunlight. BOP are tropicals and usually get canopy filtered sunlight. I’ll move him into a corner away from the direct rays and see if that helps or if we need to put him back in the east room with a light.

Yeah acclimating will help. Mine was in the direct sun all summer long with zero issue but I put her outside In the spring and I feel that helps her acclimate to summer harsh rays

It’ll sunburn cause it was in an east facing window. You need to slowly acclimate your plant to the west window!

It’s probably the different kind of sunlight. Morning sunlight is the very gentlest, afternoon/evening is harsher. Give it some time. Maybe back it up a bit from the window until the deep winter.

Ohh that’s interesting, I’ve never heard that about morning vs afternoon light before!

Yep yepp! In truth, you can almost look directly into the sun in first light. Also it’s a whole colour spectrum thing too. Yellower in the am and redder in the pm. It’s really cool. Getting early morning sunlight can really help your circadian rhythm to even out so you sleep better at night. That and turning off screens, as they give the same kind of stimulating “blue light” that morning sun gives, whereas even sun, candles, fire, give the soothing “red light” that tells our brains it’s time to shut down for the night.

Sorry, this particular subject gets me really excited. Even as I sit here on my phone after dark. 😝
