Well I guess it’s time to say good bye to one of my calatheas. I tried everything to save her. My last ditch was to chop off all the leaves as there were all brown and crispy hoping they would return. It’s been a couple weeks and no growth. There’s no green left anywhere. But this cute little mushroom just popped up over night lol. My other calatheas is recovering a lot better and finally is putting out a new leaf.

Last ditch attempt I would put it in water. Did that with my agleonema and she’s finally bouncing back and showing growth… may still be too late for this one

Mine is doing exactly the same thing! I will try the water trick too.

I feel like I see bits of green at base in soil?

Yes I thought so too, but it’s just the perlite. Some of it has turned green 🤷🏼‍♂️

Found some green stem lol. I rinsed the roots as best as I could. Still quite a few white roots. Quite a bit of dead roots. I have some trimming to do

If the rhizome is still alive and you have some roots left, it might have a chance. What do you think caused the plant to fail?

I have been struggling with them since the day in the middle of summer I was a month into owning plants and didn’t know better so I put them all outside on the back deck for a few hours lol. Now I know better lol one of my calatheas is just now putting out a new leaf after all of that. Also I repotted them in my own soil mix which sounded like a good mix, but held too much moisture.

Calatheas are not easy and I’ve killed my fair share. I’ve tried growing a few different types, using the same growing conditions, and managed to only keep a Calathea white fusion alive. lol. The plant is very happy but I periodically get spider mites and dealing with that at the moment. Don’t give up. I’m sure you will find the right Calathea for your space 🙂

Yes. My other calathea was looking just as bad but is slowly recovering and has given me a new leaf with two more on the way
