This usually indicates over-watering or too little light. Hibiscus are tropical so make sure it is getting lots of direct sunlight. This looks to be in a porch so it is possible that it doesn’t get enough full sun and also doesn’t dry out fast enough so it getting root rot.
2 J'aimeI’m in Austin, Tx. I moved the pot from north facing window to South facing patio. Do you recommend placing it in direct sun.without shade
0 J'aimeDoes it get any direct sunlight on the porch? I would use a hydrometer and not water it until it shows on the lesser side of ”moist”. You also indicated that it had been inside but is now outside. Does the pot have drainage and what kind of pot is it in? (Clay, ceramic, plastic, etc) Mine is outside in an east facing sunbed in Nashville but overwinters in my east facing office. Leaves typically turns yellow and looses a lot of them in winter because it doesn’t get as much light as it wants even with plant lights.
0 J'aimeSorry for the confusion—the pot has been outside the whole time. I just moved it last week from the front (north-facing) side of the house to the back patio. It’s in a plastic pot with drainage. I think the next step is to move it out of the shaded patio into the backyard where it gets full sun, and keep an eye on it over the next few days.
1 j'aimeIt will probably drop all the yellow leaves but as long as it gets the light it needs and stays moist but not “wet” it should recover.
0 J'aimeI also have one like this. It’s so dramatic! I’ve literally stripped it naked a couple times. I’ve had it in direct, indirect, and medium light. I’ve had it inside or outside. I’ve tried different watering schedules.. this is all over 5 years or so. There’s been no sudden changes, just me stressing and trying to make it happy while I’m not. It’s going to get gifted to a friend! 😂 do what you think is best. Good luck!
0 J'aimeI recommend keeping in morning full sun/ afternoon shade and maybe give a repot or at least check the roots. They are heavy feeders so make sure you fertilize weekly and hopefully the blooms will return! Mine is outside (SoCal) and I am trying to continue waiting patiently for mine to put out blooms
1 j'aimeIt's hard to say what specifically could be wrong with your plant, but hibiscus can have a stress reaction when their environment is changed. They do like lots of light some of it direct or even all of it direct... Maybe not in austin! They like humidity. They drink a lot of water and as long as your pot has drainage you may need to water everyday when the weather is hot which if I recall correctly it is in Austin Texas in the summer. They are also heavy feeders so you should give it regular feedings of an all-purpose fertilizer or a bloom booster.
