Hi Thanks in advance for info and help. I bought this zebra plant in 12/2024. I brought it home and potted it up and added to my planta library. It didn’t take long before the lower leaves started to drop off. If since learned it probably went into shock. For months it’s been looking like this. No growth. Just holding its own like this. Will it eventually grow? Will leaves grow on the lower area? What can I do to get it back to its bushy beauty? (If I were to get another in the future I would not repot. I would keep it in the nursery pot until it was well adjusted to its new home. Lesson learned.)

Hi Mel, can you give us a bit more info? Where is your plant, how much sunlight does it get, how often do you water it and how do you decide when, do you fertilize it, etc. I have had some plants that really seem not to grow or change… that’s how I know I’m giving it enough to not die but not enough to thrive! I had one plant not grow any new leaves for 7 years but now that I’ve put the effort into learning what it needs, it has a new leaf!

I’m following the schedule this app set up for watering and fertilizer. I use liquid fertilizer. It sits in my living room in the corner between an east and north window. It use to be on the non window wall opposite the east window, but I felt it wasn’t getting enough light so moved it to its current spot. I try to post another picture shortly showing its location shortly.

It’s somewhat grey outside right now. This gets lots of morning light (picture taken in afternoon) and then in the evening that lamp is typically on.

The bottom stems will not grow new leaves. My Zebra plant did the same thing as far as dropping bottom leaves. It probably needs more light for it to grow more leaves on the top. When it gets to bare on the bottom you'll just have to cut the stems with leaves on them and propagate it and leave the stems in the soil to grow a new plant. But cut the stems without the leaves to about 1 or 2 inches from the soil. Hope that makes sense.

So basically cut this stock in half? Take the top half, dip in rooting hormone and then plant in a small pot of soil. Leave the bottom half with no leaves and hope it sprouts new shoots?

Yep! You understood it perfectly 👌 but only if you want to do that. Its not necessary but if it drops more leaves then it will look better if you did what i suggested

Or put the top half in water to propagate

I have used keiki cloning paste and was able to get this plant to regrow leave lower on the stem. Unfortunately, I never got the care schedule right and it died.
