Leaves on my pilea are starting to curl/round over backwards...What is this a sign of? I have a grow light on it 8-10 hours a day is that too much light? I follow the water & fertilization schedule on planta, the curling started about a week ago.

Mine do the same thing. I have looked it up several times and come up with a different answer every time🤦♀️ eager to see what others say it is.
1 me gustaDo yours stay curled year round? I haven't had this before!
0 Me gustaIf you're asking me, I think I got mine this year. All the leaves its gotten since have been curled. Its also lost most if the ones it had when I got it. It has grown quite a bit tho and keeps making lots of new baby plants. I just can't seem to figure why the leaves look the way they do.

pilea peperomioides curl their leaves when the soil gets too dry in my experience, i’ve had one for 3 years now
2 Me gustaSo how dry is too dry? Because I've read that that they like well-draining soil and to let them dry out between watering. But maybe that was wrong?l
1 me gustaMe too!! I started watering less and the stems turned from brown to green but then the leaves started curling! Idk what to do

i’ve found it helpful to let the soil dry out fully, but i try not to let it stay dry, as it seems extended periods of drought cause the new growth to deform
0 Me gustaSo what soil do you have it in? Because mine are just in a miracle grow indoor potting mix from Walmart. Maybe they need better draining soil?
0 Me gustaG&B organics potting soil? I fertilize with miracle grow indoor plants
0 Me gustaNot an expert myself, but I’ve read that curling/doming leaves could be a result of the plant trying to absorb natural light better. That makes sense to me when I apply it to my own pilea.
1 me gustaSo should I keep my grow light on it 8-10 hours a day?
0 Me gustaThe book I got my info from says the pilea under a grow light forms flatter leaves while the pilea in natural light forms slightly less flat leaves, domed/curled/etc. But that’s just one guy’s opinion, so 🤷🏼♀️ (book: The New Plant Parent) As far as I can tell, my particular pilea seems healthy either way. Maybe it just boils down to the plant’s aesthetic appearance you prefer.
0 Me gustaI recently moved one of mine to an east window because it was getting leggy. I had it under a grow light but I don't know if its necessarily quality. I've noticed that my plants that are in a window usually grow a bit faster than the ones under the grow light.
0 Me gustaI've also read it could be over fertilizing. I think I have been fertilizing mine too often, so I guess I'll slack off and see what that does. I fertilize with miracle grow all purpose plant food, and follow the directions on the container for indoor plants.
0 Me gustaCould be worth a shot to try adding humidity! Putting it under a pebble tray may help. That’s my best guess!
