I just bought this umbrella plant a few days ago and it’s been dropping leaves like crazy in my care. The leaves are turning black and dropping. What’s the problem and what do i do to help my plant??????

Check the roots! If the roots aren’t rotted (dark and mushy. They should be light in color and firm if they’re healthy), I can help you troubleshoot the possible other causes
2 gillningarShould I try propagating it to get stronger roots before planting again?
0 gillningarIt’s not an issue of weak roots if it looked healthy when you bought it. It could several issues stacked. - I’m assuming you repotted it as soon as you brought it home. Repotting is not bad. But, it adds stress to a plant that’s adjusting to a new environment. I usually wait to repot (3-4 weeks wait) until my plants are settled. - Barely any roots means it should be repotted to the same size pot it came in. You could have upsized before the plant was ready for a larger pot. You may have to downsize if the plant keeps dying. - Too large of a pot means too much standing water around the roots causing rotting roots, leaves and stem. 🍀🪴
1 gillaAdrian has a good response. I’d say check the soil and make sure to clean out all the dead. Might need a little time to get accumulated to the new home as well as giving it high humidity
2 gillningarI gave it some drier soil but it looks even more pitiful after the process. The roots were barely there and from what I could see it didn’t really have any strong roots. I put it next to the window in hopes that it does a lot better here.
1 gillaYou can add some hydrogen peroxide to the water the next time you water (just a few drops, nothing extreme), but I see what you mean if the root system is barely there. You could try propagating it in water. Just make sure you change the water out every couple of days. i heard using colored glass bottles or jars to propagate in water helps the plants grow stronger roots, since roots don’t naturally get the amount of sun exposure clear glass would give it. Hope this helps!
1 gillaThank you so much!!
1 gillaNo problem! Good luck! 🍀
