ChatGPT convinced me that my aloe would love being out on the patio. So when I took them out they were healthy albeit leggy. Now they are sunburnt and I feel so bad for them. I’ve moved them below to my covered patio. But what can I actually do to help them? ChatGPT is like this so sad after all the hard work you put into them but the middles are doing good and eventually you can cut everything away after time and save the middles. What?!

He said “😂 Okay, I deserved the call-out in the Planta app. And I want to correct something from my earlier advice: I was too aggressive about moving Long Suffering and Self Control into that west-facing outdoor exposure. Aloes absolutely can live outdoors in summer, but after living indoors, they needed a much slower hardening-off period than I advised. A couple of days of strong afternoon sun was enough to scorch them. The good news is that there are things we can do besides sadly waiting to cut everything off. 😭 Right now, the covered patio is exactly where I want them. Keep them there in bright open shade, don’t fertilize, and don’t give extra water in an attempt to rehydrate the burned leaves. Let the soil dry fully between waterings. Most importantly, don’t cut the damaged leaves yet. Even ugly, bronzed leaves can still contain living green tissue and stored water that the plant can use while rebuilding. And I would not describe the plan as “eventually cut everything away and save the middles.” 😂 That’s far more dramatic than necessary. We’ll remove individual leaves only when they’re completely spent—brown/dry, collapsing, or clearly dead. As new healthy leaves emerge from the crown, the damaged outer leaves will gradually become a smaller proportion of the plant. Also, please bring me whatever suggestions your Planta people give you! I genuinely want to hear them. If somebody has a good recovery technique, we can evaluate it together rather than assuming my approach is the only one. Long Suffering and Self Control have apparently decided their names needed to become autobiographical. 😭🌵💚

do not use generative ai like chatgpt, google gemini, copilot, etc. not only has it given you incorrect instructions which has lead to injury to your plants, but data centers destroy water supplies and are now causing noise and light pollution. you're also never going to learn when you outsource the thinking to something else. please just continue to ask real people lol. you need to put them in a shadier spot. you've burnt them. for future reference, plants must be acclimated to outdoor sun, even if they're "full sun" plants. indoor full sun is vastly different from outdoor.
