Haven’t seen this before.. fungal problem or pest??
I am sorry to say it could be mealy bugs. Check all your plants. I just went through this and fingers crossed, I hope they don’t return. 🤞🏼🤞🏼
1 gillaOh lord. I’m just now getting through spider mites… this is the only plant I’ve seen it on, and I didn’t see anything moving at all on this plant. That could be hope I hope? lol- do I just look for the same white spots??
0 gillningarIve dealt with mealy bugs before, it’s not ideal but totally treatable! Quarantine your plant, spray with Neem oil, and wipe EVERY surface to get rid of them. Repeat once a week until they stop coming back
0 gillningarSee I’ve had a horrible experience with neem oil before.. I diluted it quite heavily, and it still gave over half of my plants chemical burn :( so I’m scared to use it now..
0 gillningarI’m going to check out the others on that shelf now. I may just get rid of the plant / any that are potentially infested, I’ve been using dish soap/peppermint extract and washing for the spider mites. In reality, I need to do a complete reset and just clean every single surface and rearrange that room anyways lol
0 gillningarIf you want to avoid neem oil, you can use rubbing alcohol. Soak a q-tip in it and touch any cottony mealybugs directly to kill and remove them. Wipe the rest of the leaves with a paper towel that's damp with hydrogen peroxide, since that's more gentle and can act as a preventative. Monitor the plant, get any mealies when you see them, and do preventative treatment every 5 days. The lifespan of mealybugs is about 31 days, so if you're clear for 2 months, you can be certain they're gone.
2 gillningarI had them on orchids I rescued. I should have quarantined them. 🥺 They spread quickly. Neem did not work for me. I used a systemic granule pesticide and 70% rubbing alcohol on a large cotton swab to wipe directly on the mealy bugs. I checked everyday for two weeks. So far, so good!
