Hello! I have a Boston fern and and English ivy in my bathroom so they can get a good humidity! However, my bathroom is poorly ventilated and it’s so humid that their soil kind of never dries. Has anybody else had this problem? I don’t want them to rot but it’s the only place in my old house that it’s even a bit humid.

Hello, yes, I live in a region with high humidity. I try to water a little less because if the soil take to long to dry, the roots can suffocate and get root rot. I have learned to add extra perlite or vermiculite to help so I don’t overwater. If the light isn’t efficient this can cause slower drying. I’d supplement them with a grow light. That way you can increase the photosynthesis and that alone will help dry up the soil a little quicker. GL and happy growing!

I assume they both have drainage because the dark planter looks questionable. Besides making the soil faster draining and adding a grow light, adding a mini fan to provide some circulation may help. Switching to unglazed terracotta would probably make a huge difference also. And one more, make sure the pot is appropriately sized to the size of the root system.

Good points I forgot to mention. It takes a plant village right?🫶🏽

Neither plants need high humidity. They were popular parlor plants back in grandma’s time especially the Boston fern. No need to keep them in the bathroom.🪴🍀
