Anyone know what pest this is? It’s all over the stems and leaves of my Bird of Paradise. I have been washing them off with water but not sure how to get rid of them.

They are called mealy bugs, personally never dealt with them so it’s best to search on a video

Looks like you have mealy bugs! I got them on my alocasia a little while ago. To get rid of them, you can mix one part rubbing alcohol with one part water and one part castle soap. (I used doctor bronners peppermint soap) Use a cue tip to dab solution on all the infected areas and it will kill the bugs. Repeat daily until you don’t see anymore bugs. Good luck!😉

Female mealys are the white fuzzy ones and the males are flies that often are mistook as fungus gnats. They hide in new leaves and petioles. You can kill them on site with alcohol, but to treat the eggs & hidden ones, you have to target it systematically. Treat the soil and sequester the plant to avoid spreading to the rest of your plants! Neem oil spray helps keep them off the plant while you treat the soil and kill on site. Good luck. And stay on top of it once you think it’s all good, cause they can come back sneakily!
