Hi!! Im a new plant owner and I have a Calathea as one of my plants. I’m unsure if it’s dying or getting too much sun, something in me is telling me that I probs did something wrong to my plant. The top leaf has a hole forming and the bottoms ones are abit flappy. Any advice or pointing what looks off on the plant is welcome!!😊

Here’s what works for mine. I keep a spray bottle filled with rainwater/distilled/reverse osmosis water and mist her daily to increase humidity. Only indirect sunlight. I used clear plastic orchid pots to monitor moisture levels and view root growth too.

Everyone says they’re finicky but you have to find what works for them. I just removed the last of the original leaves and have this gorgeous plant now. Just little happy babies.

Also, if the edges get brown and gross, you can just cut the brown parts off with clean sharp scissors.

Yes yours is a never never plant which is a good thing because calatheas require some experience. People don’t swear by them, they swear at them. So research the correct plant now. Biggest problem with new plant people is overwatering. I let my never plant get a little dry before watering. And for all plants, water them until water drains out the bottom. The problems you are having are difficult to diagnose. But best guess is lack of humidity. They need high humidity. I moved my plant to slightly higher location, and a little farther from the humidifier, and I’m seeing dry leaf edges. Try misting. That may help some. So try not to overwater and try increasing humidity. Also you need to think about changing from the nursery soil, if you haven’t already done so.

I might start placing it in my bathroom while I shower from now on, I’ve heard people do that to increase the humidity

I started with one Never Never plant and ended up with six! I forced my kids to take them home or give them away lol They need to be cleaned all the time because they get sticky on the backs of their leaves and that attracts pests. I never use tap water either and that helps with the crispy leaf edges

I have a Zero water pitcher that comes with the meter to test it but I used to use distilled and that was good too
