   I’m not the expert but it looks like corking which can happen naturally to support the weight of the trunk. I’ve seen this a lot on the milk trees.

     What can I do to prevent corking? It’s unfortunate cause I planned on putting it in my state fair for the plant show and took notice of this in the last week.

     The stem is not soft or mushy is it? Did your light source change or did you move it recently?

     The stem is fine as well as the roots and I haven’t moved it to any new location. It gets good light from my window. Full sun.

   overwatering oedema? but that usually happens closer to the trunk. i agree with corking, but it's always good to check
