A beginner needs help! I got this Bird of Paradise repotted and fertilized. I’m trying to get the leaves up to stop the bending. What’s the best way to do that? I’ve been fumbling with bamboo sticks and they don’t seem strong enough. Is this a lost cause and I should just cut them? The leaves are in great shape. It’s clear this plant was well loved until just recently.

The broken areas look permanently damaged from the browning that has already started. I would keep the two best leaves that are particularly attached and cut off all the rest. This will keep photosynthesis going until new leaves emerge to support the plant. Then, cut the remaining damaged leaves.

You can also get some plant tape to support them better. The Velcro on the tape can help you tie in certain areas until they retrain to climb up.. but I agree anything damaged get rid of it. Good luck

Bird of paradise is a very heavy feeder. I think your best approach is to fertilize every week. In theory this should allow your plant to generate stronger stems.
