Is there any saving this baby? Purchased last week, rinsed and sprayed with insecticide soap, repotted with homemade mix (1/3 perlite, 1/3 orchid bark, 1/3 tropical houseplant mix with lava rock) watered deeply, allowed to drain well, named it, loved on it and placed it in a well lit room. I left town for 3 days and came home to this 😭 Any recommendations?

I would check the roots. This could be a number of things, but it definitely looks like a root issue. It’s either overwatering, underwatering or root rot or a combination. Check the soil and the roots and let me know! Also Is this a philodendron splendid?

How wide was the rootball? If you repotted it in a container bigger than 1 in wider than the root ball it is definitely an overwatering and root rot problem

I repotted it in the same nursery container it was in. Just removed the soil from around the roots, and repotted with well draining soil mix. Maybe it was just too much shock for it 😔

I’m honestly not sure what kind it is. It didn’t have a tag on it. It definitely wasn’t yellow when I bought it. It was dark green with rose color on the back and edges of its leaves.

It dried out too much if the brown edges are dry and crispy. Repotting with a complete soil change can damage the roots. Plus, it had to adjust to a new environment and repotting. Both are stressful. I recommend checking the roots, as Plantygirl stated. Rotting roots mean overwatering. Clean out all rot, if any. I would remove the worst leaves and hope the plant will generate new leaves. It’s a waiting game. 🍀🪴
