Help! Something is terribly wrong with my succulent. I’ve had it for years and it’s produced mini versions of itself. Nothing particularly has changed recently, but it’s started turning yellow/brown for seemingly no reason. I pulled off most of the dead parts this morning (the first picture shows this, the second picture shows before I pulled them). Any idea on what’s going on here and what to do? Thank you!! Update attaching picture with roots

I am no expert but check the roots. Many times when leaves begin to die out or shrivel up it could be a sign of either root rot or your plant needs to be repotted. I recommend getting clear pots with a lot of drainage so you can monitor the roots

Thank you! I checked the roots but I’m not sure what to make of it. I’m going to try repotting it tomorrow

The roots look a bit mangled so definitely repot, use a good soil and bigger pot and water with some fertilizer to stimulate new root growth (you might have to cut some roots off if that are dead/black/dried out)

I would start off with checking the roots of this plant. Would you mind sharing how often you water this, and about how many hours of sun it gets? That could help narrow down any possible causes of the problem, but I would definitely start with checking the roots first. If you find the roots are healthy, carefully remove the dying plant and dying leaves, and maybe try repotting it into a wide, but shallower pot with at least one large drainage hole or multiple drainage holes (avoid glazed ceramic pots for this type of plant. Terra cotta and plastic pots with drainage holes would work best for this type of plant). I’m wondering if given how tall the pot is to accommodate for how wide of a pot you need it to be to fit all the haworthias could’ve led to it not being thoroughly watered or completely drying out as well as it needs to. Another possible solution could be to separate the haworthias into smaller, but individual pots if you can’t find a wide and shallow pot to fit them all into. Hope this helps.

Thank you! It has been in full sunlight every day. I water it super sporadically. I checked the roots but I’m not sure what to make of it. I will look for a wide/shallow pot for repotting tomorrow.

If the roots are fairly light in color, firm, and they aren’t peeling away at the touch, they’re probably alright, but if they’re dark, mushy, or literally peel away at the touch, that’s root rot. If that’s the case, I can walk you through how to treat for that if you’d like. If there is root rot, you’ll have to treat it before repotting to stop any further spread of the rot to the remaining healthy haworthias

There may be some other cause that may not be apparent. I say that because the side pups appear deformed and not growing normally. They don’t have the regular shape of zebra Haworthias.
