I’ve never had scale but this is kind of how it is supposed to present. A quick google image search confirms scale pest. But I’m not 100% sure. I recall you have to remove the larger pests manually because they form a biofilm cocoon to the plant

Unless it is spread to the rest of your plant, then try to wipe them all off

Thanks everyone for helping us understand that this is scale! We’ll be removing the scale and watching for any more popping up over the next few weeks!

It’s black scale, one of 8,000 documented scale species!😬 Wear gloves. Use cotton swab and isopropyl alcohol to kill the obvious ones, as suggested above. Use a soft cloth or towel with slightly diluted alcohol to wipe off leaves. The juvenile ones are hard to see as in the attached picture. Wipe down any plant close by. Wipe the area, under and around the pot. Disinfect drain water saucers. Those critters crawled or were carried to the plants somehow. They breed fast. So, disinfect hands before touching any plant. Hand sanitizers are mostly alcohol based and very effective in killing the ones you can’t see on your hands and under nails!
