Hi all. Can anyone please tell me what this white mouldy type substance is? Also is it something to be concerned about, if so how do I treat it? I have also seen it on roots and in the soil clinging onto bark and other organic matter (like white spider webs) when re-potting other plants. It doesn’t seem to affect the growth, although I could be mistaken. This is a particularly bad example. TIA.
this happens to almost all of my plants, it's normal soil mold. it's not harmful to your plants but it isn't very pretty. any fungicide, neem oil, or even some essential oils are just fine at keeping it away, but know that they are temporary and it will return eventually as it's a very common fungus. i have had success with a pinch of unsweetened cinnamon along the topsoil. it usually indicates that your soil is staying wet for too long. i would watch out for overwatering though, because that's usually what that mold growth means. the soil is staying wet for too long. if there's nothing wrong with the drainage or your watering schedule, put it near a fan or door to create more air circulation

Happens more often with organic mixes. You can scrape off or spray with neem or just let it dry out. It happens when there’s too much humidity/water.

0 J'aimeI had it on my pothos for a long time and it didn’t affect the plant at all. I scraped it off recently and it hasn’t come back.

1 j'aime Thx for that guys, have you seen it on or around the root system with very thin “spiderweb” type of strands clinging to organic pieces in the potting soil? I’ve also seen it in bags of ready made potting soil which was a bit concerning, but didn’t seem to hinder growth in seedlings and other plants. I’m normally pretty good with the watering, although like you say sunlight and humidity can cause this. I live in a fairly warm climate.
