Hi all! I recently got a “Jumbo Alocasia” from Trader Joe’s that I believe is an Alocasia California. It had some yellow leaves when I got it and was incredibly root bound. So on a repotting day, I upgraded the soil to something more nutrient rich (Fox Farm Ocean Forest) and well draining (Perlite, Coco Coir, Orchid Bark) and gave it a pot that was two inches bigger (10 inches). I watered it immediately to help it transition. However, in the past few days the weirdest thing has happened! The leaves are yellowing but maintaining a green polka dot appearance. I’ve never seen anything like it. Is it a sign of transplant shock or overwatering? Possibly fungus? Any insight would be appreciated so I can help my plant recover! Thanks! 💙

I’m just curious, because I love Alocasias, did you ever figure out what caused the spots on the leaves of your plant? TIA… 🤗💚🪴

Oh man, Lynda! I wish I did! Poor sweet Kevin kept losing his leaves. I did the classic plant parent thing and plucked off the spotted ones while he still has new growth and neglected his watering schedule a bit more. The spotting has slowed but I don’t think it ever completely stopped. No visible pests or light issues; and again he keeps giving me new leaves. It’s truly been a mystery!

Hi, Kat… My first thought was that Kevin has some kind of fungus…😖! Have you used any fungicides? If so, what have you used, and how often have you used it? I did notice that no other Planta members have gotten back to you, but maybe we can revisit this, and come up with something better for Kevin… what do you think? TIA… 🤗💚🪴
