Hi, I’m a new plant mum and I’ve just noticed my Flaming Katy has this mould on top? I only water once a week (bottom water) and it seems to be thriving otherwise. Any advice is appreciated !

I had that issue with a ZZ plant. My sister, the expert (I am not on her level), told me to remove the plant from the pot, get as much soil off as possible, wash the roots, and repot. Before washing, she asked me to check for root rotation. I was able to save the plant. If I can find the before pic, I'll share the before and after.

Mold isn’t harmful, but it is an indication that the soil may be retaining too much moisture. An easy fix is to spray the top soil with a 4:1 water to hydrogen peroxide mix. If the mold comes back, you may want to repot into a better draining soil mix.

I used baking cinnamon to get rid of the mold on my tradescantia. Worked really well - just put on the soil, not the plant

Also make sure you don’t reuse any of the old soil, and if you are using the same pot to wash it out. You can water the plant with a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and water for a couple of waterings as well.
