Hi!! I just got this lemon button fern 2 months ago, and it was in great condition when I got it, but starting to decline 😔 I have been following the store owner's instructions (mist it often, water about once a week) but it is starting to brown which I typically see in underwatered plants, but I am pretty consistent with this one. Let me know if you have any advice or tips I would greatly appreciate it ❤️❤️❤️ (hopefully the photo adequately shows the brown/wilting area in the middle and bottom)

Ferns need an insane amount of humidity. I stopped buying them because unless you have a terrarium that gets close to 100% humidity, they’ll get crusty and brown. My honest suggestion is to get a different plant. You’ll drive yourself nuts with a fern.

Totally agree w Abby. I killed a couple lemon buttons until I was able to maintain consistent humidity north of 50% and no drafts and no direct sun. I ended up putting right next to my humidifier, but not in the draft, and in a spot w bright indirect light and NOW it’s happy. Good luck

I agree about the humidity, but I’m also wondering about the drainage in that pot (which is VERY cute, by the way!)

I'm thinking that pot looks like a cover pot so as long as you drain it or water the plant somewhere else before putting it back that should not be an issue. Of course if it's planted in that pot and it does not have drainage that would be a problem. About the humidity, misting is okay but you would be better off with a humidifier.

I have one too and it is doing the same thing, not a lot but near the bottom. I do run a humidifier and keep the room over 50%. Sounds like I need even more humidity!! Good luck, cute pot!

All great suggestions, what also matters is the water you’re using. Tap water is the death of many plants, and causes leaf tips to brown on just about everything it doesn’t kill. If you don’t want to be buying bottled water for your plants just buy a bottle of aquarium water conditioner and add it to your tap water whenever you need to give your plants a drink. All you need is a tiny amount so a bottle should last a long time - a few drops in a filled two quart pitcher. You’ll notice a huge difference in all of your plants.

This is such a big deal with ferns, I find. I went from not being able to keep a button fern alive to having 8 on-purpose ferns (plus a few accidental ferns that are growing out of my moss poles) and I swear water was the difference.

Calatheas are a perfect example of how easy it is to kill a plant simply by using tap water. They’re crazy sensitive to chlorine and lime in tap water - anyone who’s had one die despite doing everything else right can tell you this. Tap water is horrible for plants.
