Hello! My jade plant has been dropping leaves like crazy and most of the leaves still on it feel a little squishy. I’ve also noticed this weird black growth on it. I don’t think it’s a watering problem, but I’m not sure what could be affecting it like this. Any help is appreciated!! Thank you :)

Usually squishiness leads to overwatering, does your pot have dranaige?

I would say either lack of light, overwatering, or both. Jade stores water in their leaves, so they are a very draught tolerant plant. Meaning they need to dry out completely before watering again. If the soil is still quite moist I would probably pull it out, change out the soil, and wait to water for a few days.

Thank you so much!! About how much light should it be getting? I have it in a window that gets direct sunlight for a 1-2 hours in the morning and then bright indirect light for pretty much the rest of the day

overwatering and lack of light are the most common causes of soft yellowing jade leaves. they thrive in full sun (8+ hours of direct light) but can handle the lower light you’re describing as long as you refrain from watering

Definitely light! If it continues to decline, check the lower stems and roots. Rot can do a number on these guys

Thank you!! Is that also the reason for the back stuff that’s been spreading in the leaves?
