My potted rhododendron bloomed wonderfully this spring and it has tons of buds on it… however, almost all of the branches are turning yellow and so are many of the leaves underneath. Is this cause for concern?

I’m not sure about potted specifically but my in-ground rhody stays green year round in northeastern PA so i would be concerned 😞

Take a look at the root system. Check for rot, overgrowth and pests. Consider if any new chemicals added before it started turning yellow or if it was exposed to a lot of rain.

I repotted before it bloomed in the spring… and it was looking great all summer… now this. I’ve been reading some articles and maybe the ph is off? Seems like it’s not acidic enough? I’m ordering a ph tester and some special fertilizer. I hope I’m not too late. 😕

A sudden change is unlikely a change from ph unless chemicals were added. Ph testing is a good idea to clear out that potential cause. Heavy rain or watering without sufficient time to dry the soil can also cause it.

It has been getting progressively worse… I got a PH sensor and the soil is extremely alkaline… so I got some special fertilizer for rhododendrons… fingers crossed it will bounce back. There are so many buds!

      I hope it quickly recovers.
