I have had this string of buttons for several years. I am looking for some guidance on what is covering the leaves. Thanks in advance!

    Ok several reason it may not have proper dirt (you need succulent dirt specifically) or you are not watering it enough or too much (water once very week or two) or there is no drainage in the pot (holes in the bottom for the water to slowly come out so it doedoes not drown) or you need to mist it about once every 2 or 3 weeks

      It is in succulent soil and the pot does have drainage. I use a moisture meter. So not necessarily a disease or insect problem? Could this plant simply need a bigger pot? Right now it is sharing space with a ripple jade.

    Yes it may need a bigger pot or it is not happy sharing with another plant

    I have several plants sharing pots. Not an issue unless needs are different. I would suggest you use the Planta support for help. Just my guess but may be scale or type of bacteria. Maybe look that up to get better idea. And just an FYI, moisture meters usually do not work with high grit soil. The reading is not reliable because of the loose soil.
