My Jade plant, Jessica, has been having a tough time though she still appears to be growing okay. Looks like she keeps getting chomped, presumably by the squirrels or opossums I know live in my apartment complex. Any tips for preventing her from being a snack? She’s also had bugs — thrips? Small and black—for quite awhile despite my using Captn Jacks Dead Bug on her twice. I’ve also used toothpicks to scrape/pick them off once a week or so when they get bad. Any tips on complete removal of bugs? And finally, many of her leaves are black and speckled. No, those aren’t the bugs themselves, the actual leaves are getting some lumps and spots. Mostly on the underside of the leaves but some on top side too. Not sure if this is because of the bugs though or because of the pesticide? Any ideas? Thanks a ton!

i have always used neem oil spray to get rid of bugs, as well as peppermint oil. i’ve never put peppermint oil directly into the soil but what i do is get a q-tip with some peppermint oil on it and just apply it around the rim of the plant pot and its been working well for years!! with the neem oil you can use it to clean your plant leaves and spray directly into the soil

Is it possible you could try putting the jade in a bright south windowsill to try to reduce the risk of pests. Is your jade covered when it rains outside? The natural outdoor rain and humidity could be affecting the plant 🤔

All our windows are south facing, just don’t have a ton of space inside. I’ll consider it though! And I’m in SoCal so no rain really here lol but she’s also covered if it does rain.
